Our Early Years

Pannal Ash Junior Football Club has been operating for almost 40 years and each year between 300 and 400 children participate in team sports and develop skills in teamwork and discipline whilst staying fit and healthy.

For many years the club had something of a nomadic existence, lacking a permanent home. The club eventually secured a 30 year lease on the Almsford playing fields but the existing pavilion on the site was condemned. The first priority was to drain the most badly affected playing area for both the club and the local community so that the playing fields could be used in all weathers. The second priority was to raise enough to demolish and rebuild a new pavilion.

Bringing the community together

In 2015, the club began a series of consultations with local residents and voluntary organisations.  It became clear that a new community pavilion would be welcomed so that maximum use of the playing fields could be achieved. The need for a new pavilion was obvious to provide the club with changing rooms and facilities but also to provide the local area with a community hub where people could come together to meet and discuss local issues. The fundraising stepped up a gear with the start of the annual Almsford Community Fun Day in 2017 which has grown year on year to become a fixture in the local calendar attracting hundreds of people to the playing fields for entertainment, music and sport.

By drawing the community together and some great support from a range of Trusts, Foundations and the National Lottery, the club eventually raised over £100,000 for the new pavilion which opened in September 2018.

The final fundraising effort to complete the drainage works and bring the fields up to FA standards for junior football are underway with the largest fundraising effort the club has known. This will complete the large capital projects at the Almsford playing fields and secure the future of Pannal Ash Junior Football club for generations to come.
