Centurions Coaches Corner December 2011
Monday 26th December 2011
“Centurions Coaches Corner”
Hello Centurions. We are half way through the season and since the last edition of “Coaches Corner” we Centurions have been very busy. Centurions have played in a total of 9 League, cup and non-league matches; parents have attended the Pannal Bash and we have had our Christmas raffle. We also had the opening of our refreshments stall.
Below is a brief summary of the matches played and other news specific to the Centurions.
Thank you to the parents who attended the Bash and who along with all the other people present helped make it an enjoyable evening. Also thanks to everyone who helped to sell Christmas raffle tickets, with a special mention to Leon for such a great effort. (Brilliant – well done Leon). Profits from both events will benefit all players at Pannal Ash JFC.
WIGTON (Home)
This fixture was a good return to winning ways and both Centurions squads gave a great performance. Another 6 points were added to our league total and our goal average was also improved. A fantastic performance, and well done to all players.
RIPON (Cup)
Our cup match was held on Remembrance Sunday and both teams held a minutes silence before kick-off. It was our first ever league cup match and our last for this season. One draw and a narrow 2v1 defeat cost us. To say some of the players were disappointed would be an understatement; coaches and parents were also unhappy and not only with the result. Next year I’m sure we will do better.
THE BIG DERBY MATCH – SPARTANS (Home - K.F.C.C.)
As Almsford was a bit damp we managed to play this fixture at the Knaresborough Cricket Club pith. (Thank you John Bradd). With Spartans having selected one squad stronger than the other; one of our matches was very close, but we came away with the three points. In the other match we improved our points tally and our goal average which enabled us to overtake Wetherby for 4th place in the league. Well done Centurions.
ILKLEY (Away)
The freezing cold and wet weather tried it’s best to stop this fixture but thanks to Ilkleys good pitch surfaces the matches went ahead. Both matches were hard fought with some good football played. Our two matches could have gone either way but both finished 2v1. Another 3 points for the Centurions to maintain 4th from 13 teams in the league. A good feature of these matches was the hard battling performances of both squads and despite the cold and wet conditions some very good football was played. If we continue to play like we are during the rest of the season - it will be enjoyable to watch.
Be proud of your efforts as individuals and as a team.
Apart from the disappointment of being knocked out of the league cup this part of our league season has seen us take 15 from 18 points and score a lot more goals than we have conceded. Our league position is presently 4th from 13 teams in our league and I’m sure you will agree all players are trying hard and their football skills and confidence are improving.
NON-LEAGUE MATCHES
Centurions have played in a total of 7 non-league matches and 5 have been played since the last edition of coaches’ corner. We have played at Rossett against Killinghall and our U8s and had a mini-tournament against Killinghall and Patley Bridge away at Killinghall Moor. We have also had away matches at Knaresborough and Wetherby. We will continue to try and organise as many non-league matches as possible for players to participate in and enjoy. It is important that all players get as much match play as possible to enhance skills and confidence and our football for all philosophy at Pannal Ash will ensure this happens. Well done to all the players who have featured in these matches and keep a lookout on our web site for details of more of these fixtures as they are arranged.
Thank you to the coaches who have helped the Centurions in these non-league matches and to our Pannal Ash SPARTANS team mates who have played alongside us. Also a big thanks to the teams we have played and who have hosted these fixtures.
WELL DONE CENTURIONS – We are progressing well in league matches with some Centurions giving some very good individual performances. As a team we are improving and playing some good football and our progress in the league backs this up. In the non-league matches Centurions are keen to participate and are trying hard. Improvements seen in player’s confidence and ability show the importance of these non-league fixtures.
THE REFRESHMENTS STALL
At the Wigton match we all gained the benefits of our refreshments stall and I’m sure all Centurions and opposition players who had a free post-match hot dog would agree it’s a great addition to the team. The stall will be open for business at all our home matches and I’m sure parents will all welcome a hot cuppa and maybe a bacon or sausage butty to help fend off the cold whilst cheering on the players. Well done ladies. Could I also thank Kiera, Saffron and Will for their help. All your combined efforts have helped increase team morale.
OTHER STUFF
Leon has achieved swimming success in the Centenary Swimming Club Gala with a 1st in freestyle and a 2nd in the backstroke event. Bailey and Thomas have gained their Purple Belts in Karate after recent exams.

Well done boys |
Finally thank you parents for your continuing support and well done to all Centurion players for all your efforts and hard work.
Kind regards CHARLES.
