Bulldogs V Knaresborough Celtic 17 Feb 2013

The bulldogs lined up as follows

Willam KW-GK, Billy, Kyle, Jack-defence, Josh M CM, Ben S LM, Dan RM

The match was played at Knaresborough Forest CC-our first visit there. Unusual conditions for us- dry pitch, sunshine, bacon butties (massive thank you to the Hart family for catering!) and not to mention toilets.

The bulldogs made their usual poor start which I am fed up of writing each week by conceding an early goal-here we go again!

We then started to push forward, taking the game to Celtic but our efforts were broken down with final passes being under or over hit with no accuracy, and the ball constantly being given away.

We always seemed to be second to the ball and much slower than Celtic and it was no surprise that they went 2-0 up after a mistake at the back

Half time 2-0 down

The second half was played much in the same way, with the bulldogs trying to compete but always coming second best to a side who were fighting harder, faster and more passionate in trying to win the ball.

The defence was well led by Billy with William playing competently in goal.

We finally got on the scoresheet with a peach of a goal by Dan from a great pass by Ben. Dan actually took his time, looked and scored, their keeper having no chance.

The whistle then blew for full time and it was too late to recover from the poor first half although fairly certain that we would have equalised if the game had carried on a bit longer! This was a match we could, and should have won.

Final score KC 2 Bulldogs 1

Most of the boys, with the exception of Billy who was man of the match and Ben S who never stopped trying, played below their best and we all know that they are better than this.

The performance as a whole was sluggish, we lacked aggression, passion & speed and the communication between the players was virtually non-existent always being second to the ball and half hearted tackling.

The attitude of hoping and expecting to win without working must be increasingly frustrating to the coaches which I am sure will be put right if our mindset is more passionate and aggressive.

2nd Game

Kyle-GK, Billy, James W & Josh-defence, Will KW CM, Ben S LM, Dan RM.

After a long team talk by Steve & Graeme before this game, we seemed a lot more competitive and the change in line up worked.

We even scored first! A fantastic goal by William following some good passing between Ben & Dan

Half time 1-0 up

We then gained in confidence and began to dominate with Ben getting the goal he thoroughly deserved after all his hard work.

William, who was a revelation in midfield then got his second making us a comfortable 3-0 which was the final score.

This was a much improved performance with William & Ben working their socks off in midfield, both being rewarded with their goals.

A huge congratulations go to Kyle who bravely offered to go in goal in this friendly. All of the parents and coaches who watch this young man, know he is potentially one of the best goalkeepers we have seen and Kyle delivered today. He dominated the box, shouted when the ball was his and made one of the best saves we have ever seen-god knows how he got to it but it was superb and drew applause from everyone watching-well done Kyle, you should be very proud of yourself

It goes without saying that Kyle was man of the match without question-this goalkeeping performance was amazing-well done!

How good would it be if we could start our games from the second half, it would be interesting to see what difference it would make to the points we have-I wonder if we could ask the league to change the rules-or even swap our second game results for the first...
