Match Report - Blue Hawks vrs Beckwithshaw (21/10/2012)

The 1st game was a very even affair with both teams playing a high tempo match. The 1st half ended 0-0 with Beckwithshaw edging the best chances, Thomas A's saves kept us in it. Shortly after the break the pressure told and we went 1-0 down. This only spurred our players on to put in more effort and we gradually got on top with the midfield of Thomas W and Rowen working well together.  Our best chance came when Gabe was put through one on one with the keeper only to be brought down. The resulting free kick eventually led to a corner, Ben whipped in a wicked ball and the defender headed through his own net. This brought the final whistle and a great game finished with honours even at 1-1.
The 2nd game was equally competitive. Thomas A now playing outfield struck a lovely finish to give us a 1-0 lead which we kept until half time. The second half saw a flurry of goals as both teams legs started to tire, Ben went through and was certain to score when he was felled in the box. Thomas A converted his 2nd penalty in as many weeks to give a 2 goal cushion. We then came under pressure with defenders Toby, Thomas G and Arthur all getting in some great last ditch tackles and Gabe pulling off a world class save. Beckwithshaw did pull 1 back only for Thomas A to score a carbon copy of the 1st goal to make it 3-1. Beckwithshaw finished the game on top and a late goal to make it 3-2 resulted in a tense finish, but we held on for a deserved win.
